Paige Travis Conn
Paige Travis Conn is the head of the Art Department at Fredericksburg Middle School in Fredericksburg, Texas…ok, she IS the Art Department at Fredericksburg Middle School, teaching Art History and Studio Art to 6th, 7th and 8th graders.
Paige’s earliest recollection of a “relationship” with an artists was the Peter Max poster and shoebox (no clue who actually owned the shoes) in her 1970’s bedroom.
Art was always her favorite class and she enjoys continuing that feeling for many FMS students.
Paige began her education career in 1989 teaching in Round Rock and Austin before settling in Fredericksburg.
Igniting passion, introducing and employing the Elements of Art and the Principles of Design and getting the kids’ hands on as many mediums as possible is the core of her studio602 program.
The studio is all about creativity and exploration. It’s about learning of artists’ lives so students can be more aware of their own. It’s about making a “mistake” and making it work for us. It’s about making messes and cleaning them up. An environment such as this fosters new ways of seeing, thinking, and sharing. It fosters the acceptance and appreciation of different approaches to a problem. It fosters thinking through a situation and weighing a variety of solutions. In the studio, we foster the process more than the product. In studio602, we teach to the Art of Life.
Being excited about what one does and igniting passion in others makes all the difference! A quote we live by in studio602 is,
“Art is not a thing; it is a way.” -Elbert Hubbard
