Mrs. Burns - The Dragon Lady!

Hello 3rd graders and parents.  I have been teaching for 22 years.  I taught first grade for 11 years and have been in third grade for 11 years as well.  I graduated from Southwest Texas State University (now called Texas State) with a BA in Psychology.  I worked in the real world for a couple of years before deciding to go back to school and take classes to get Teacher Certification to teach Elementary School with a Reading Specialty.  I took all my classes at USTA and did my Student Teaching at FES through Shriner College in Kerrville.  I have taught reading for many years, but now I teach Math and Science.  I teach with Karyn Rode, who is the best teaching partner ever!  She used to be my student teacher.  We have had a great time teaching together.  I had already become a Dragon Lady teacher before I met Mrs. Rode.  I was excited to find out that Mrs. Rode (Ms. Swink at the time) loved unicorns.  It has been a lot of fun for us and the students we have had to identify with these two powerful creatures.

More about me:

I am married to George Burns, who teaches Spanish at FHS.  We have three smart and beautiful girls.  Savannah is our oldest.  She lives in San Marcos, and graduated in December of 2019 from Texas State with a degree in Marketing.  She had to work very hard to earn that degree.  Gloria is our 2nd oldest, and she attends college at A&M in College Station.  She is studying Engineering and wants to go into Industrial and Systems Engineering.  Eleanor is my youngest, and she is in 8th grade at FMS.  She has been a mascot/cheerleader for the past two years.  She was really looking forward to track and practicing tennis with Mrs. Rode (one of the FMS tennis coaches), but will not be participating in those sports due to COVID-19.  Things I love: traveling - I have been two nine other countries: England, France, Denmark, Sweden, Spain, Canada, Mexico, Turkey and Italy.  I hope to go back to Italy someday because I have only been to Rome and going to Florence is one of my bucket list items.  I have been to several fun cities in the US as well: LA, San Francisco, San Diego, NYC, New Orleans, Boston, Miami, Key West, and recently Santa Fe.  I love coffee, chocolate, going for walks, reading books - especially mysteries, playing games, and visiting with family and friends.
