Hi, my name is Natalie Handley and I am one of the Athletic Trainers here at FISD. I grew up here and graduated from FHS. I received my bachelors degree in Exercise Sports Science with a Major in Athletic Training from Texas State University, and my Master of Athletic Training from Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC). I then began a PhD in Rehabilitation Sciences at TTUHSC. 3 years into my PhD this job became available and I knew I had to throw my hat in the ring to come back home. This is my 11th year as an Athletic Trainer here at FISD. I met my husband, Joel Handley, here and have 3 awesome kids (Reese 7, Keller 4, Stehling 1) and 2 bonus sons (Joshua 21 and Ty 25).
Along with our duties as the Athletic Trainers for both the Middle School and the High School, Lucas and I also facilitate a student athletic training program of approximately 30 students. We are always on the look out for hard-working students who want to be a part of something bigger than themselves. It's not easy being a student AT but if you want to give it a chance, let us know and we can see if it's right for you!

Hello, my name is Lucas Scheidemantel and I am one of the athletic trainers at FISD. This is my second year at FHS and my fourth in Texas. I am originally from Beaver, Pennsylvania but moved to Texas, after graduating from Baldwin Wallace University with a double major in Athletic Training and Exercises Science to get my Master of Science from Texas State University. During the two years of my graduate degree, I worked at San Marcos ISD as a graduate assistant and, after graduation, moved to Fredericksburg and started working for the district.
In addition to servicing all athletic teams at FISD, I also help coordinate the student athletic training program. These students learn about hands-on skills, such as wound care, as well as life skills like professionalism and time management. Student trainers work closely with athletic teams for games and practices. Our students even get a chance to travel to away games with the team. If you are interested in being in our program, feel free to reach out to either Coach H or myself and we will talk to the counselors.
