Mr. Jason Younts

Jason Younts is enjoying his sixth year as part of the Fredericksburg ISD Staff and first year as Director of Bands for FISD. Mr. Younts’ students have experienced great successes in his tenure in Fredericksburg to include: Multiple All-State Saxophone and Clarinet players, dozens of Region Band chair winners, consistent UIL Superior ratings in Concert and Sight Reading, and numerous students have continued playing their instruments in Collegiate programs upon graduating. Additionally, Mr. Younts directs the FHS Marching Band (State Finalist ’14,’16), FHS Wind Ensemble, FHS Jazz Ensemble, and is the Administrator for the Band Program 6-12 in FISD.

Mr. Younts promotes a Student-Centered Growth Mindset approach to his students focusing on long-term Deep Practice skills and Grit in a high accountability environment. This approach supports the development of independent thinkers and professional soft skills important to all career fields.

The Fredericksburg High School Symphonic Band was the 2017 Area Winner for the ATSSB Outstanding Performance Series with their recording of John Mackey’s “Lightning Field” and was a Finalist at the State Competition.

The Fredericksburg High School Jazz Ensemble has grown significantly in the last six years in both size and achievement. In 2018, the FHS Jazz program placed 8 of 10 first chairs at the Region Auditions, had 13 players record for Area, and 19 students make a Region Jazz Ensemble. In 2017, the students won every first chair available at Region Jazz auditions and placed a State Record 4 players in the All-State Jazz Ensemble. The FHS Jazz Ensemble has won multiple awards in 2017 and was the Class 4A Winner at this year’s Victoria Jazz Festival.

Mr. Younts holds degrees from The University of Texas at Austin (B.S.-Communication Sciences and Disorders), The University of Texas at San Antonio (B.A.-Music), and Texas State University-San Marcos (M.M.-Music Theory). While pursuing his graduate degree Mr. Younts presented research at multiple national and international Conferences including Boston University’s Graduate Music Student Conference and The Conference on Communication in Performance Studies in Helsinki, Finland.

Mr. Younts lives in Boerne, TX with his wonderfully supportive wife, Stephanie, and his beautifully intelligent daughters Ella (7) and Adelynn (3). In his free time Jason loves to cook delicious food, practice instruments, and read.
