2026 Bond Election Information

Fredericksburg ISD Community, Staff, and Students, identified several high-priority projects to accommodate safe and supportive learning and working environments, including:

  • Construction of a New Fredericksburg High School on District-Owned Land
  • Improvements and Upgrades to Stonewall Elementary School, Fredericksburg Primary School, Fredericksburg Elementary School, and Gillespie County High School:
    • Safety, Security, and Technology Upgrades
    • HVAC System Replacements and Efficiency Improvements
    • Additional Facility and ADA Compliance Improvements
  • Transportation and Vehicle Additions
  • Partial Roof Replacement and Building Enclosure at Fredericksburg Primary School
  • Track and Field Facility Additions at Fredericksburg Middle School

Careful fiscal management has allowed FISD to keep the I&S tax rate stable at $0.1062 after the 2008 bond, 2011 bond, 2015 bond, 2018 bond, and 2022 bond. Just as previous bonds did not increase the tax rate, the District plans to fund the $160 million bond at the current tax rate.

The bond proposal will be presented to voters in one single ballot proposition.

Fredericksburg Independent School District Proposition A:

PROPOSITION A
THIS IS A PROPERTY TAX INCREASE
“The issuance of not to exceed $160,000,000 of Fredericksburg Independent
School District school building bonds for the purposes of designing,
constructing, renovating, improving, modernizing, expanding, upgrading,
updating, acquiring, and equipping school facilities (and any necessary or
related removal of existing facilities), and the purchase of buses and vehicles,
and the levying of a tax sufficient to pay the principal of and interest on the
bonds and the cost of any credit agreements.”

Fredericksburg community members are encouraged to explore this informational webpage to learn more about what is included in the bond package; how the bond proposal was developed; and how FISD’s conservative fiscal approach currently allows the district to fund capital projects without an increase to the district’s tax rate.

Roadmap for Community Planning

FHS Master Plan Committee

Fredericksburg ISD engaged in a thoughtful and collaborative process to study the future of Fredericksburg High School and our district as a whole. This work did not begin with a decision to build something new. It began with a responsible question: How can we best use the remaining 2022 CTE bond funds to support students and learning — not just today, but for decades to come?

As district leaders began reviewing building conditions, long-term needs, and instructional priorities, it became clear that we needed input — not assumptions. That is why we formed the FHS Master Planning Committee, made up of high school teachers, coaches, directors, department heads, parents, and community members.

The committee met multiple times. Members shared what they value in a high school environment, reviewed building conditions, explored potential layouts, and ultimately studied the difference between remodeling and building new. After reviewing the information and discussing the options, the committee reached consensus that a new campus would best serve future students.

Those findings were presented to the Board of Trustees in an open public meeting. No action was taken at that time — the purpose was transparency and listening.

Community Planning

Bond Steering Committee

Bond Steering Committee Meeting

After the High School Master Plan Committee met, the district expanded the conversation. Because a bond would impact the entire community, we formed a Bond Steering Committee with representation from other campuses, departments, parents, community members, and families from both public and private schools. This group reviewed districtwide needs, asked questions, and prioritized what matters most to our community.

On Monday night, January 12, 2026, the Steering Committee’s work will be presented to the Board. In the coming weeks, the district will make a recommendation, and the Board will decide whether to move forward with calling a bond election.

If the Board chooses to proceed, the next phase will involve even deeper engagement — including meetings with high school staff, departments, teams, families, and students to shape specific priorities for learning spaces, safety, and programs.

This process reflects who we are as a district: we listen, we plan carefully, and we put students first. Master planning is not about making decisions behind closed doors — it is about inviting our community into a long-range conversation about the future of education in Fredericksburg.
