What is SHAC?

A School Health Advisory Council (SHAC) is made up of school personnel, community members and parents. SHAC assists the district in ensuring that local community values are reflected in health education instruction. Additionally, SHAC plays an important role in strengthening the connection between health and learning. They can help parents and community stakeholders reinforce the knowledge and skills children need to stay healthy for a lifetime.

Vision Statement

All FISD students will reach their full personal, academic, and health potential.

Mission Statement

The mission of the FISD School Health Advisory Council (SHAC) is to ensure that all children in the FISD, grades PreK-12, will have healthy minds and bodies through sequential health education, practices, and the modeling of good health behaviors.

Goal

The goal of the FISD SHAC is to advise FISD decision-makers regarding students’ needs and assets related to health knowledge and skills, regarding policies and procedures that impact student health, and regarding the health of the school environment. See TAC Education Code 28.004(a) for specific objectives and duties assigned.

For questions regarding SHAC, please contact Sarah Southard at 830-997-9551.
