Superintendent Committees
Fredericksburg ISD’s Superintendent Advisory Committees play a crucial role in ensuring district leadership receives valuable, diverse feedback from students, teachers, and parents. These committees represent the range of voices within FISD, enabling Superintendent Joe Rodriguez and district leaders to listen actively and shape initiatives that reflect community values, traditions, and goals. These advisory groups help to drive district planning that aligns with the needs and priorities of FISD students, families, and the wider community.
Complementing these committees, the FISD Community Ambassador Program serves a different yet equally vital purpose: inviting recommended community members to gain an insider’s view of district operations. By fostering open communication and transparency, this program helps bridge communication gaps, shares accurate information, and reduces rumors, reinforcing strong community connections and understanding.
Both the Advisory Committees and Ambassador Program embody FISD's commitment to active engagement and collaborative decision-making with its community.
Student Advisory Committee
Purpose: To amplify student voices in shaping the educational experience, this group brings together diverse student leaders from 5th grade and up across our campuses. The committee shares valuable insights into student needs, interests, and campus climate, empowering students as active participants in planning and decision-making.
Administrative Members:
- Joe Rodriguez, Ed.D., Superintendent of Schools
- Leslie Durst, Director of Elementary Curriculum
- Sheryl Jacks, Director of Secondary Curriculum
Teacher Advisory Committee
Purpose: Comprised of one teacher from each campus, this committee offers a channel for educators to provide feedback on instructional practices, resources, and professional needs. Teachers' insights help the district align initiatives with the realities of the classroom, ensuring that FISD’s strategies support meaningful student learning and teacher development.
Administrative Members:
- Joe Rodriguez, Ed.D., Superintendent of Schools
- Lori Maxcey, Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction

Parent Advisory Committee
Purpose: Involving dedicated parents from across the district, this committee fosters a strong partnership between FISD and its families. Parents contribute valuable perspectives on district policies, programs, and goals, helping to strengthen family engagement and build an educational environment that benefits all students. The committee has been instrumental in shaping FISD’s Profile of a Billie Graduate, which we look forward to rolling out soon as a guide for student achievement and community expectations.
Administrative Members:

Community Ambassador Program
Purpose: Unlike the other advisory committees, which provide district leaders with insight, the Ambassador Program is designed to give respected community members an inside look at district operations. By fostering understanding of daily operations, these ambassadors help bridge communication gaps, share accurate information, and dispel misinformation. Their participation builds trust, strengthens community ties, and creates a supportive network for FISD’s mission and initiatives.
