Library and Media Center
Library and Media Center Mission
At Fredericksburg ISD, our Library and Media Center exists to inspire curiosity, build a love for reading, and empower students to become confident researchers and responsible users of information. We are committed to supporting classroom learning, encouraging personal growth, and providing access to engaging, age-appropriate resources that help every student achieve their full potential.
Our libraries are more than just spaces for books—they are welcoming hubs of innovation and discovery where students and families can connect, explore, and grow together. With the guidance of our dedicated library staff, we help students think critically, communicate effectively, and become lifelong learners ready to thrive in a changing world.
We inspire learners by offering meaningful opportunities to explore, create, and grow through reading, research, and innovation.
We guide students to become thoughtful readers, responsible digital citizens, and curious thinkers who pursue knowledge with confidence and purpose.
We collaborate with families and educators to build a district-wide collection that supports classroom learning and encourages personal discovery—empowering each student to reach their full potential.
We cultivate a thriving library system that reflects the needs and voices of our community, ensuring every resource aligns with our commitment to academic excellence and student success.
Selection Determination and Transparency
At Fredericksburg ISD, we believe that building a strong school library collection is a shared responsibility that involves our educators, families, and community. Our goal is to offer materials that enrich instruction, encourage independent reading, and reflect the broad interests of our students.
In an effort to ensure that our parents and community have an opportunity to review book purchases and provide feedback prior to approval, we will now have a 30-calendar day feedback process in advance of approving books. This will allow families and community members the opportunity to review requested book purchases and provide input via an online form.
Book selection is guided by the following:
-
Professional book reviews and community feedback play an important role in determining what is added to the collection.
-
Library data, such as circulation numbers, material age, and collection analyses, help ensure our resources are current and relevant.
-
Books are chosen to support both classroom curriculum and student-driven reading interests.
-
Purchases are made collaboratively by campus librarians with the goal of strengthening the district-wide collection, while also welcoming insight and input from our community.
This process reflects our commitment to maintaining a thoughtful, purposeful collection that supports student learning and honors the values of our families.
