Letter to the Community
It is with deep sorrow and a heavy heart that I write to you today. Our small community is enduring much heartache, and we are mourning the loss of one of our students. In these moments of profound sadness, I humbly ask that you join me in prayer for those who have recently lost loved ones.

Safety and Security Update
Our schools are an integral part of our community, and I want to thank you for your continued support of our district. As we adjust to the routines of the school day and the many activities that provide our students with opportunities, I want to re-emphasize our commitment to student safety. Since the tragedy in Uvalde, our district has continued to take extra precautions to ensure our schools are secure. We recognize that some of these changes are new for our small, tight-knit community. We are currently working with law enforcement to host a safety and security night, and we will have more information as it becomes available. As our students and staff adjust to new routines within the school buildings, we ask for the cooperation and understanding of our parents and community members. With that in mind, please be aware of the following visitor policies, which are in place across all campuses in Fredericksburg ISD:

In the Know with Dr. Joe: Moving Forward
It has been a couple of months since Fredericksburg ISD voters passed an $82 million bond package, and I am pleased to share that we continue to progress in our planning efforts to move forward with the projects promised to our community.
As our community can imagine, it takes some time to effectively plan and execute projects of this magnitude, especially considering much of the funding will go toward significant renovation and construction projects. With that in mind, I want to share our path forward and what our community can expect in the coming months.
Design and Development
Over the past few months, we have been working on a schematic design of the new middle school, which was approved at this week’s Board meeting. We have recently met with city officials and the stakeholder groups involved in the design, such as athletics, fine arts, special education, and the safety committee. Our Director of Operations, Michelle Williams, has worked countless hours to secure contracts with the architect and other professionals required to prepare plans for the next phase, which is design and development. In addition, the Post Oak Road extension contractor was secured and will start construction soon.
Tax Rate Drop
Also, at this week’s Board meeting, the Board of Trustees approved a $0.0174 decrease in FISD’s tax rate, dropping the total tax rate of $1.1462 in 2018 to its adopted rate of $0.9608. While the Interest and Sinking tax rate will stay the same, we will have a drop in the Maintenance and Operation tax rate. The tax rate drop and the 7.7% salary increase for our teachers were only possible due to the commitment of our community, Board of Trustees, and financial leadership of our Assistant Superintendent of Business and Finance, Jill Minshew.
I want to reiterate that we are committed to moving forward in a way that demonstrates fiscal prudence, delivering projects in a timely manner and without disruptions to our core work in classrooms. We are also dedicated to providing our community with regular updates, as we know we can only make these improvements because of the partnership between our district and the community. Please visit our website at www.fisd.org and follow our social media networks for the most up-to-date information.
We appreciate your continued support and look forward to another successful school year!
